The Office of the Lord Mayor of London is looking for an experienced and talented communicator to join its team of Senior Speechwriters, who will write for the Lord/Lady Mayor and senior figures in the City of London Corporation.

Based at Mansion House, you will be responsible for producing speeches and other written communications for the Lord/Lady Mayor across a broad range of events and subjects – from major set piece speeches on financial services alongside the Prime Minister, the Chancellor and other high profile figures, to scripts for important industry roundtables or visits to key international markets.

Building a strong relationship with your Principal and understanding of their priorities, you will also oversee the editing and writing of other communications for the Lord Mayor, including articles for national newspapers and other forms of written communications.

As part of a three-person team of senior speechwriters in the Office of the Lord Mayor – and working closely with the Mansion House Department and the wider City of London Corporation Communications team – you will have excellent written and communication skills and the ability to craft informed, engaging and persuasive narratives on the City Corporation’s core subjects, including financial and related professional services as well as the important civic and ceremonial role of the Lord Mayor, to a wide variety of audiences within the UK and overseas.

You must have impeccable organisational and time management skills, able to work well with different teams, and confident in providing feedback on the performance of speeches. An ability to negotiate and agree a consensus on speeches while taking into account a wide range of views is also essential.

The City of London Corporation is currently undergoing a programme to ensure that our pay and reward practices are competitive and equitable across the whole organisation, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the work that we do.

How many days a week you’ll be required to attend your workplace will depend on the requirements of your role. It’s important that you understand the requirements before applying to ensure you are able to meet them. We are committed to considering requests to work flexibly and job share. Requests will be considered by the recruiting manager in line with our policies and business needs.

We will be reviewing this policy and approach at regular intervals to ensure we’re meeting our attendance needs.
