Join the City of London Corporation and help create a sustainable future for the oldest and most dynamic part of the capital!

The City Corporation is looking for an enthusiastic sustainability officer with special interest of making buildings, places and infrastructure sustainable.

The role focuses on assessing planning application proposals and negotiating high quality sustainability outcomes based on best practice experiences in the design, construction and operation of buildings and their relationship to the City context.

Another important part of the role is to contribute to the City’s sustainability policy framework, the City Plan 2040, the Planning for Sustainability Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPD) and other related planning advice and strategies, through policy and technical research and evidence work.

The City Plan 2040 sets a bold vision for an inclusive, sustainable City, with a thriving cultural and leisure offer that will sit alongside the ever-growing international business function of the Square Mile while the SPD provides constructive advice for developing and futureproofing the City.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholders in the City as well as strategic partners including other local authorities, national and London government will be essential. You will be part of the Environment Department’s Sustainability Team within the Policy & Strategy section that is spearheading efforts to create a net zero Square Mile, working closely with other teams including Development Management, Climate Action Strategy and Climate Resilience.

You will bring to the role a comprehensive understanding of planning, design and construction matters, relevant experiences of working on sustainability solutions and motivation to develop and drive forward ambitious sustainability outcomes in the City of London, along with excellent communication skills to work successfully with a diverse range of individuals and organisations.

Employees in the Planning and Development Division are expected to work in the Guildhall office for the majority of the working week to encourage a culture of collaboration, inclusivity and belonging.

Because our roles are so varied, we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ policy for workplace attendance. How many days a week you’ll be required to attend your workplace will depend on the requirements of your role. It’s important that you understand the requirements before applying to ensure you are able to meet them. We are committed to considering requests to work flexibly and job share. Requests will be considered by the recruiting manager in line with our policies and business needs.

For more information on our categories for workplace attendance, please view our guide here.

We will be reviewing this policy and approach at regular intervals to ensure we’re meeting our attendance needs.
