Markets Operations Manager 

 

Workplace Attendance Category for this role is: -   

 

Workplace plus – you’ll attend your workplace most of the time, but will have the option to work for 1 day a week at home.    

 

Location: New Spitalfields Market  

Hours of Work: 06:00 – 14:00, Monday – Friday   

 

About us  

New Spitalfields, Smithfield and Billingsgate Market are three world-famous wholesale food markets owned and managed by the City of London Corporation. We provide and maintain the sites and their infrastructure and let out trading space to wholesalers of meat, fish and horticultural produce.   

 

The role  

The Markets Operations Manager will provide professional leadership in operations management and coordinating cross-functional aspects of the Markets business operations. This role will ensure the highest standards in contract management, occupational health and safety, asset management, performance management, customer care, and financial control. The Markets Operations Manager will also provide comprehensive technical and operational support for the Markets Division and deputise for the General Manager of the Market when necessary.  

 

About you  

You’re an experienced Operations professional with a strong track record in managing complex environments, ideally within a market or similar setting. You bring a deep understanding of logistics, Health & Safety and Fire Safety regulations, as well as contract management. Skilled in leading and coaching teams, you’re confident managing multiple projects, prioritising effectively, and resolving business-critical issues. With excellent communication skills, you build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You also have a solid grasp of environmental policies and business continuity planning, and you approach every challenge with a proactive, adaptable mindset.
