The Innovation and Growth department in the City of London Corporation focuses on the competitiveness of UK financial and professional services (FPS) across both policy and promotion. This means ensuring that the UK is: internationally competitive and a global gateway for financial and professional services; innovative in technology; and a leader in sustainable finance. The research team carries out both policy- and international promotion- focused work across these themes. This includes external-facing publications and internal analysis, working closely with key partners and stakeholders across the FPS industry and policy-makers.
As part of the Research team, you will help shape and deliver key pieces of work and projects with tangible impact. You will be working on some of the most important current issues for the UK’s economy and global competitiveness in FPS. You will often work flexibly in multi-disciplinary project teams as the Research lead, alongside internal and external experts in regulation, trade and investment, and innovation. At other times you will proactively identify and undertake analysis to deliver recommendations on key FPS industry opportunities and challenges.
You will be able to undertake rigorous research grounded in the wider policy and economic landscape. You will make specific and impactful recommendations to ensure that London and the UK’s financial and professional services offer remains world-leading and underpins UK economic growth. You will have:
- A strong and deep understanding of the UK’s financial and professional services landscape. This encompasses a policy perspective – what’s needed to help the sector thrive and deliver for the UK. And / or a promotional angle – what are the UK’s FPS strengths from an international perspective.
- Excellent analytical, writing and numeracy skills, and strong experience of carrying out research and analysis using a range of approaches, in particular for a policy audience.
- A highly proactive approach to research, with the demonstrable ability to identify key issues and trends and produce timely and impactful research and recommendations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of colleagues and external stakeholders, in particular on multi-disciplinary projects.
- The ability to identify, analyse and present information and recommendations to confidently advise colleagues, brief senior stakeholders, and inform a range of external audience needs in both written and verbal forms.
