Market Constable (Security/Enforcement Team Member)

Location: Billingsgate (E14)

About us

Billingsgate Market is London’s premier fish Market, owned and managed by the City of London Corporation. We provide and maintain the site and infrastructure that supports over 50 tenant businesses. Plans are now underway to bring all three COL markets together at a single 42-acre site in Dagenham Dock and establish a world-class wholesale food location for London and the UK.

The role

Creating a safe, secure and well-regulated trading environment 24 hours a day is a major challenge. As a key member of our security & enforcement team, you will maintain order, prevent/detect crime, enforce site rules, assist with health and safety matters and manage on-site traffic. This includes dealing with enquiries and complaints, monitoring CCTV, carrying out patrols on foot, testing fire protection systems and procedures, and delivering first aid. Building good relationships with market tenants and customers will be at the heart of your success. You’ll work 8 hour shifts to provide 24/7 cover, 365 days a year.

About you

Ideally you will have significant security or enforcement experience. Being able to deal calmly with emergency situations and confrontations is important, and you must also have good customer service skills. You’ll be SIA accredited, certified in First Aid at Work and the use of a de-fibrillator (or be prepared to undergo this training) and will have a good knowledge of fire safety, CCTV and ANPR systems. You will also have the ability to use a computer to undertake basic administration and write short reports.

Closing date: 12 noon on 25 August 2025

Interviews will be held on 11 & 12 September 2025

Because our roles are so varied, we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ policy for workplace attendance. How many days a week you’ll be required to attend your workplace will depend on the requirements of your role. It’s important that you understand the requirements before applying to ensure you are able to meet them. We are committed to considering requests to work flexibly and job share. Requests will be considered by the recruiting manager in line with our policies and business needs.

We will be reviewing this policy and approach at regular intervals to ensure we’re meeting our attendance needs.
