Workplace Attendance Category for this role is:  

 

Workplace based – completely workplace based, with no option to work from home. 

 

The Garchey Waste disposal system is located on the Barbican Residential Estate.

 

The system is split into two parts, one being the main waste disposal units, which are situated in residents’ flats, while the other part of the network runs through subways under the Estate.

 

As Garchey Operator, you will play a key operational role fulfilling a multitude of daily responsibilities regarding the general upkeep and maintenance of the Garchey network as well as attending to residents’ needs in resolving issues with their individual Garchey waste disposal units.

 

This is a hands-on, working role with exposure to power tools, drain cleaning devices as well as the operation of two vacuum and pressure pumping stations and access to the subway network to empty the waste holding pits on a scheduled basis.

 

No prior experience is necessary, but basic DIY or maintenance skills would be desirable, as on the job training will be provided due to the bespoke nature of the Garchey system.

 

You will gain in-depth technical knowledge and practical experience of repairs and maintenance relating to the Garchey system and learn the skills and have the capability to carry out specialist tasks independently and as part of a team as required.

 

To be successful, you should show the willingness to learn and have a positive personality in an ever-changing and unfamiliar environment. You should have an adaptable approach to daily responsibilities and willing to be flexible in difficult situations, whilst maintaining strict working practices to ensure the integrity of the system and uphold the longevity of the Estate where appropriate.

 

This unique post requires an individual who is committed to providing an outstanding service in mostly difficult conditions. Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance therefore understanding and excellent communication skills are vital.

 

Experience:

None required as on the job training will be issued, although basic DIY or maintenance skills would be desirable.

 

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as part of the selection process the successful applicant will be required to obtain a standard Disclosure & Barring Service check.
