The City Corporation has been providing support and assistance from as early as 1189 to residents, businesses, workers, and visitors with a variety of essential day-to-day services.
In addition to the usual services provided by a local authority we run our own Police Force and the nation's Central Criminal Court (the Old Bailey), maintain five London Bridges, run the Heathrow Animal Reception Centre, are the London Port Health Authority for the River Thames, have three food markets Billingsgate, Spitalfields and Smithfield, manages 11,000 acres of green spaces across London and manages property across London which are held for investment purposes.
The Chamberlain, Caroline Al-Beyerty, is the Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer of the City of London Corporation. A range of financial and management services are provided including stewardship of the City's finances and assets, budget setting, forecasting, and monitoring; strategic financial advice to members, departments, and the Corporation as a whole; corporate accounting; monitoring of investment securities portfolios and treasury management of cash balances.
The Finance Units are part of the Chamberlain’s department, providing a business partnering role for strategic financial advice and supporting departments as an integral part of their management teams. The unit in which this post sits provides support to the City Surveyor Department.
The City Surveyor's Department is primarily concerned with:

Maximising the returns from the City's investment property portfolios which comprise approximately 624 buildings (capital value £2bn) extending to 16m sq. ft of space with an annual income of over £100m.

Developing a strategic property holding providing space for small and medium sized business and long-term redevelopment opportunities close to the City.

Achieving efficiencies and maintaining the City's 616 operational properties extending to 6.25 million sq. ft of space.

Providing advice and services to the wider business and property communities in the Square Mile.

Delivering construction projects (worth about £200m) to both investment and operational portfolios.

Delivering repairs & maintenance and facilities services to all Corporation property.

Overseeing health and safety and energy issues including carbon reduction, for all Corporation properties.

Providing building data and land ownership records.

This apprenticeship role is based at Guildhall and will last for 15 months (including time to complete your End Point Assessment).

To qualify for this apprenticeship, you will need to be:
• 16 or over by the end of the summer holidays
• Living in England
• Not in full-time education at the time of applying
If you are a non-UK citizen – you need to have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship.
Selected apprenticeships require evidence of English and Maths GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent.
