About us

From our iconic Guildhall headquarters, to Tower Bridge, Mansion House and the Old Bailey, the City of London Corporation manages many sites of historical, political and strategic importance, as well as portfolio of high-value commercial properties. Maintaining and improving the facilities and services within these buildings is a vital part of realising their true value to the City Corporation. It’s also how we’re working to meet vital energy efficiency targets.

The Role

Tackling a range of HVAC and mechanical engineering projects, you will play a vital role in both conserving and enhancing the City Corporation’s built assets. Based in the City Surveyor’s Department, you will supervise projects from inception to completion, from feasibility through design, procurement, completion and handover to maintenance. You will work with stakeholders to establish their requirements and translate these into technical specifications and briefs. You will also prepare feasibility studies and tender documents. Monitoring the performance of consultants and contractors will be key: you will carry out site inspection of works in progress to ensure compliance with building regulations.

This is a career banded role, so open to graduate, intermediate and senior candidates including those looking for the next step in their career as a client-side design and project delivery focussed engineer.

About You

With practical experience of building mechanical & electrical engineering, you’ll be ready to provide informed advice and offer solutions in areas such as refurbishment, HVAC systems, BMS, fire safety, drainage and water systems. This will include working closely with clients, as well as consultants and contractors.  Strong influencing and negotiating skills will be key to your success. You will either hold or be working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status and will have a working knowledge of the application of CDM 2015 Regulations.  Your analytical and problem-solving skills will be matched by proficiency in Microsoft Office and specialist design and research engineering packages such as AutoCAD.

Closing date: 12 noon on 22th August 2025

Interviews week commencing 08th September 2025
