Salary:  £38,647 - £43,177

About Us 

The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. Whilst there are small pockets of land within the Square Mile, the majority can be found elsewhere in London and the surrounding counties. The City Corporation acts as Trustee of 10 charities which, through their various objects, are responsible for the preservation in perpetuity of a large proportion of these award-winning open spaces.  

The Role 

The Ranger (aka Groundsperson) is a frontline face of Hampstead Heath and a critical member of our team in ensuring a safe, welcoming customer experience to all usersThey also play a vital role in maintaining the Heath to the high standards required for the Green Flag Award and other nationally recognised awards. The Ranger will play a dynamic role in supporting existing teams to keep Hampstead Heath clean and safe, engaging with visitors and community groups, and supporting events and entertainment across the space.    

The Ranger will have team leading responsibilities in the absence of the senior ranger and will be expected to work collaboratively with the Senior Ranger in planning the tasks for the team. This is an exciting and fast-paced role working in one of London’s most unique open green spaces, where no two days are alike. 

 

The Ideal Candidate  

 

You will have a full, clean UK driving licence. You will have GCSE in English and Maths, as well as an NVQ Grounds Maintenance qualification or relevant experience. You will have a good understanding of Health & Safety within a work environment and will have the relevant certification to operate machinery and tools. You will have demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced public open space environment or a similar field. You have good communication skills, including experience interacting with members of the public, and can follow policies and procedures and provide accurate updates to your Line Manager - both written and verbal. You show initiative and work well in a team. You are flexible, calm under pressure, and have a can-do approach to working outdoors.
