The Barbican has a really an exciting opportunity for a Learning and Development (L&D) Apprentice to join the People, Culture and Inclusion Directorate. As a uniquely important arts and learning centre, the Barbican presents artistic experiences across music, theatre, dance, visual arts and cinema that variously entertain, enable, enrich and educate our many audiences and participants.

The People, Culture and Inclusion (PCI) Directorate 

The PCI directorate fosters an inclusive and supportive culture where colleagues are encouraged to achieve their full potential enabling the Barbican to deliver world-class arts and learning. PCI is made up of three departments: People, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Organisation Design and Development (OD&D) and it is at the centre of the Barbican, providing colleague support, and guidance to Departments across the centre, ensuring they have the capabilities they need to deliver our programmes and audience experience.  

OD&D is the newest department in PCI and is currently developing systems and processes to support the development of an organisational culture and colleague experience to support the Barbican’s strategic ambitions.  

 

Purpose of Post 

The Learning and Development (L&D) Officer will be a key member of the OD&D team and work closely and alongside the People and EDI teams. They will support the design, coordination, and delivery of learning initiatives that help staff grow, develop, and thrive while working towards a formal qualification. 

You must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Good communication skills. 

  • Enjoy working as part of a team and have a keen interest in the people professions. 

  • Ability to provide a high-quality customer experience.  

  • Good IT skills and experience of social media platforms.  

We are looking for someone who is motivated, enthusiastic and can take a proactive approach to their learning. We will provide ongoing support and learning opportunities throughout the apprenticeship. 

This placement will give you a great start in your Learning and Development or HR career. You will gain experience in learning and development, organising and delivering courses, including e-learning on a range of areas such as career, professional and leadership and management development. You will also support office administration to make sure that the PCI teams are well supported. 

The successful candidate will be expected to complete the agreed 18-24 months apprenticeship learning programme and take ownership of the learning process with support from the college and the HR department. 

All applicants must have an interview and assessment in English and Maths to confirm that the apprenticeship is suitable for them.

This apprenticeship role is based at The Barbican Centre and will last for 18 months (including time to complete your End Point Assessment).

To qualify for this apprenticeship, you will need to be: 

  

•             16 or over by the end of the summer holidays 

•             Living in England 

•             Not in full-time education at the time of applying 

              

If you are a non-UK citizen – you need to have permission from the UK government to live in  

the UK (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship. 

 

Selected apprenticeships require evidence of English and Maths GCSE Grade C/5 or equivalent.

Prior learning: If you have prior learning e.g., a similar or higher level of qualification like the apprenticeship we will be unable to consider your application as your prior learning will not meet the funding rule criteria. If you have prior experience in a similar role to the apprenticeship your experience may also exclude you from an apprenticeship.
