The opportunity
The City of London Corporation – the governing body for the Square Mile – is recruiting external volunteer members for the Police Authority Board and its four sub-committees: Resource, Risk and Estates, Strategic Planning and Performance, Economic and Cyber-crime, and Professional Standards and Integrity.
This is a unique opportunity to get involved in policing in the Square Mile, in the national response to fraud and economic crime through the City Police’s National Lead Force role, and to contribute to the civic life of the City of London.
The role of external members
The Police Authority Board is the City’s equivalent of a Police and Crime Commissioner and it and its sub-committees scrutinise the work of the City of London Police, the City’s independent police service.
External members are expected to provide expert opinion and insight to assist this work. The City Police has a wide range of roles and responsibilities, so this may cover anything from tackling and preventing crime to financial and organisational management, community engagement, or handling complaints and misconduct.
Applicants should have a strong track record of providing independent scrutiny and constructive challenge, strategic leadership and direction-setting, sound judgement and decision-making, and demonstrate personal integrity.
