The Barbican is a multidisciplinary international arts centre in the City of London.

About The Role

As Engineering Services Manager, you’ll lead the strategic management of all mechanical plant and systems across the Barbican. Working closely with the Head of Engineering and Electrical Engineering Manager, you’ll ensure systems remain operational, compliant, and future-ready through a blend of planned maintenance, upgrades, and sustainability initiatives.

This is a key leadership role in our building transformation programme, where your technical expertise will guide design validation, readiness planning, and long-term infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure statutory compliance and best-practice maintenance of all mechanical systems.
• Prioritise safety and operational excellence, aiming for 100% completion in critical areas.
• Promote high standards and continuous improvement in system performance.
• Collaborate with the Sustainability Manager to reduce energy consumption and support the City of London’s Net Zero 2040 goals.
• Conduct condition surveys and implement robust preventative maintenance strategies.
• Audit internal and external works to maximise plant life and recommend upgrades or replacements.
• Contribute to the Forward Maintenance Plan and Cyclical Works Programme (CWP).
• Prepare reports, specifications, and tender documentation for service renewals and modifications.
