This is a unique opportunity to work in a respectful, customer-focused environment, providing essential support to the bereaved and assisting in the delivery of high-quality cemetery and crematorium services.


 

About the Role

 

As an Assistant Bereavement Services Officer, you will be the first point of contact for visitors and families, providing information and support regarding burials, cremations, and memorialisation. Your role will involve both front-of-house and administrative responsibilities, including:

  • Managing reception and switchboard enquiries with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Advising the public on burial, cremation, and memorial options
  • Handling ashes and ensuring all statutory instructions are followed correctly
  • Maintaining accurate records and statutory registers
  • Processing payments and producing reports as directed
  • Supporting cemetery events and working collaboratively with the wider team
  • Driving members of the public within the cemetery grounds using a minibus

 

What We’re Looking For

 

We are looking for someone who is calm, empathetic, and highly organised, with a strong focus on delivering excellent service to members of the public, especially those recently bereaved.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Strong administrative skills and accurate record-keeping experience
  • Excellent communication and customer care skills
  • A clear and professional telephone manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A full UK manual driving licence
  • Competence in using IT systems, including Microsoft Office

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a cemetery or bereavement services setting
  • Understanding of grief and loss and how to support individuals in distress
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
