The City of London Corporation is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Advanced Markets to join our Innovation and Growth Directorate. This senior leadership role will shape and deliver strategies that drive financial and professional services (FPS) trade and investment between the UK and priority international markets, including Europe, the US, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
About the Role
You will lead the Advanced Markets Team, overseeing the development of outcome-focused country and partner strategies, projects, and engagement programmes. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will ensure the UK’s financial and professional services remain globally competitive while supporting growth across regions.
This is a high-profile position requiring strategic leadership, excellent stakeholder management and an ability to deliver measurable FPS trade and investment outcomes. You will also provide advice to the Lord Mayor, senior Members, and Officers of the City Corporation on FPS trade, investment, and geopolitical matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of strategies, projects, and campaigns across Advanced Markets.
- Manage relationships with government, regulators, industry bodies and international partners.
- Ensure effective collaboration with UK and overseas offices, UK government departments, and financial and professional services stakeholders.
- Provide senior-level policy advice and briefing to Members, including the Lord Mayor.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of Advisers and Senior Advisers.
- Represent the City of London Corporation in relevant external forums and working groups.
About You
We are looking for a highly skilled professional with:
- Significant experience in senior-level trade promotion, trade policy, or international engagement within financial and professional services.
- A strong track record of building partnerships with senior stakeholders in government and business.
- Experience working in at least one of the Corporation’s priority markets (Europe, US, Canada, Japan or Australia).
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to operate confidently in complex political and economic contexts.
- Proven leadership ability, with experience managing teams, projects, and budgets.
A degree (or equivalent experience) and deep knowledge of trade and investment issues affecting UK financial and professional services are essential.
