The City of London Corporation seeks an exceptional leader to take on the role of Director of Regulatory Policy and Innovation. This is a unique opportunity to drive strategic initiatives that enhance the UK’s position as a global leader in Financial and Professional Services. The role contributes to our corporate objective of supporting a thriving UK economy.  

 

About the role 

You will spearhead the Corporation’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of an appropriate regulatory environment that supports economic growth; presents the UK as a thought leader in current issues facing global financial services, regulatory coherence and accelerate UK commercial strengths on sustainable finance and FPS tech and innovation.  You will oversee talented teams in London (24 FTEs) and Brussels (5 FTEs) and will work closely with our recently launched US office. 

 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Create and achieve target outcomes on the Corporation’s contributions to the UK’s regulatory strengths, and levels of market access and innovation. 
  • Identify key trends and issues relating to UK, European, and international regulation to provide high level strategic and policy advice to senior Corporation officers and Members. 
  • Drive impactful engagement with domestic and key international stakeholders from government bodies and regulatory authorities to trade associations and UK based firms. 
  • Align policy and innovation work with our inward investment work, so that we have a virtuous circle between policy reform and promotional success.  

 

About You 

We’re looking for a dynamic experienced leader with vision, political sensitivity and the ability to deliver impactful strategies in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will need the following attributes: 

  • In-depth knowledge of issues and trends in policy within the UK and globally surrounding regulation, sustainability, tech and innovation in financial services. 
  • Proven expertise in engaging with UK and global stakeholders. 
  • Strong analytical and intellectual skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.  
  • Proven track record of managing teams and driving results in complex policy environments. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and political know-how that inspire confidence, engagement and collaboration across senior stakeholders. 
  • Ability to craft metrics for individual and collective success and communicate outcomes using qualitative and quantitative methods, with a strong narrative drive. 
  • Exceptional communication, leadership and strategic planning skills.
