An opportunity has arisen to join this unique authority, protecting and enhancing the City of London, the world’s pre-eminent financial centre.

We have been regulating trade in the City of London for hundreds of years and continue to support good businesses, protect consumers and deal with rogue traders.  Although a small service, we punch well above our weight and work very closely with partner agencies, particularly the City of London Police, to deal with the disruption of investment fraud.

Investment scams try and associate themselves with the City, to reassure potential victims but part of our role is to protect the reputation of the Square Mile.  We also carry out a full range of other trading standards functions and want to develop and implement projects that are relevant to issues within the City.  The City attracts a wide variety of businesses and this makes for an interesting and stimulating workload.

We are looking for dynamic individuals with solid enforcement experience across the whole range of trading standards legislation.  Preferably you will hold a recognised trading standards qualification.  However, if you aren’t suitably qualified but have considerable relevant knowledge and experience, your application will be considered.

We offer a generous annual leave entitlement depending on your previous Local Government service, a 35-hour working week and modern offices right in the heart of London at Guildhall.  We will pay your CTSI subscription and offer support for your CPPD.

For an informal discussion, please contact Steve Playle, Trading Standards Manager, on 07968 834647 or email steve.playle@cityoflondon.gov.uk

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as part of the selection process the successful applicant will be required to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The City of London Corporation is currently undergoing a programme to ensure that our pay and reward practices are competitive and equitable across the whole organisation, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the work that we do.

Because our roles are so varied, we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ policy for workplace attendance. How many days a week you’ll be required to attend your workplace will depend on the requirements of your role. It’s important that you understand the requirements before applying to ensure you are able to meet them. We are committed to considering requests to work flexibly and job share. Requests will be considered by the recruiting manager in line with our policies and business needs.

For more information on our categories for workplace attendance, please view our guide here.

We will be reviewing this policy and approach at regular intervals to ensure we’re meeting our attendance needs.
