The role is varied and strategic, requiring engagement with senior leaders, Elected Members and stakeholders across departments. You'll be expected to handle confidential and sensitive matters with the utmost discretion and professionalism.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing strategic business and project planning for the HR function.

  • Acting as the primary liaison between the Business Support Unit and senior HR leadership.

  • Supporting high-level governance, HR SLG briefings and external partnerships.

  • Ensuring delivery of critical services to HR Boards and Working Groups.

  • Conducting research and data analysis to inform projects and policies.

  • Managing and mentoring a small team to support effective HR operations.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in a business management role, ideally within local government or a complex organisation.

  • Strong people management skills and the ability to lead and motivate a high-performing team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce briefings, reports and presentations tailored to a range of audiences.

  • Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.

  • High-level interpersonal skills, and the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders, Elected Members and Chief Officers.

  • A high level of IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office.

Your ability to use initiative, solve problems, and adapt to emerging priorities will be essential. You will also need sound judgment, discretion, and a proactive mindset when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
