Summary

We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager to work with us to support the successful delivery of the Barbican Renewal Project.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen interest in design and project management to develop their skills and experience, while working on the development of a major capital programme. This is a varied role with the opportunity to work across various workstreams as projects evolves through the phases.

About the Barbican

The Barbican is an international arts and events centre, situated in the heart of the City of London and showcasing the most exciting art from around the world.

Opened in 1982, the Barbican is a unique and audacious building, recognised globally as an architectural icon. The Centre was part of a visionary plan to radically transform how we experience the urban landscape. As well as our theatres, galleries, concert halls and cinemas, we are home to the UK’s largest post-war conservatory, a library, conference facilities, public and community spaces, restaurants, bars and a popular lakeside oasis.

Each year the Centre welcomes millions of visitors and thousands of artists, all of whom come together in its spaces to share extraordinary experiences in a unique environment.

About Barbican Renewal

Barbican Renewal is our plan to ensure every part of the Barbican Centre’s iconic site is restored, revitalized and relevant for future generations.

Over the past four decades the Barbican Centre buildings have deteriorated significantly. Through Renewal, building systems and ageing materials will be upgraded and restored, while underused areas of the site will be unlocked, releasing their full potential for public, civic and creative use.

Our goal is to care for the things people love about the Barbican, while delivering improved public and creative spaces and facilities. At the heart of Renewal is a commitment to celebrating the architectural vision and heritage of the Centre, with a programme of sensitive conservation and upgrade to bring the buildings back to their best, while also delivering a place that is truly inclusive, sustainable and resilient.

Barbican Renewal is already underway, with essential improvements being made to systems and visitor facilities. Thanks to additional funding of £191m from the City of London Corporation, we are now able to commit to delivering the next major phase of work as part of a five-year programme to forge the Centre’s future. Subject to planning permission, construction will begin in 2027 with this first phase complete in 2030, just ahead of the Barbican’s 50th anniversary.
