Protect. Maintain. Engage. Inspire.

Are you passionate about parks, conservation and delivering outstanding public spaces?

The City of London Corporation is looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Operative Ranger to join the team at Queen's Park, one of North London's most historic and well-loved parks.

This is not a typical grounds maintenance position. As an Operative Ranger, you'll play a vital role in helping keep Queen's Park safe, welcoming and beautifully maintained for visitors, whilst supporting conservation projects, sports facilities, community events and the day-to-day operation of the park. The role combines practical outdoor work with public engagement, site management and environmental stewardship, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to make a visible difference every day.

About Us

The City of London Corporation manages some of the country's most iconic green spaces, including Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood, West Ham Park and Queen's Park. Together, these award-winning sites provide opportunities for recreation, wellbeing, conservation and community engagement across London.

Queen's Park has been at the heart of its community since 1887 and offers a rich mix of formal gardens, woodland, sports facilities, a children's farm, playgrounds, community events and recreational opportunities. It is a vibrant and diverse park that welcomes visitors all year round.

The Role

As an Operative Ranger, you will work as part of the Queen's Park Team to help maintain, protect and conserve the park to the highest standards. You'll be involved in a wide range of activities that support the delivery of excellent visitor experiences and ensure the park continues to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Patrolling the park and helping ensure the safety of visitors.

  • Monitoring facilities, boundaries and infrastructure.

  • Supporting site security and responding to incidents.

  • Delivering practical conservation, grounds maintenance and site improvement works.

  • Operating and maintaining a range of tools, machinery and vehicles.

  • Assisting with sports pitch preparation and maintenance.

  • Supporting volunteers and community activities.

  • Engaging positively with visitors and providing excellent customer service.

  • Supporting events and activities within the park.

  • Completing inspections, surveys and site records.

  • Contributing to the achievement and maintenance of Green Flag Award standards.

No two days are the same. One day you could be preparing sports facilities and carrying out conservation work, while the next you may be supporting a community event, assisting visitors, undertaking park patrols or helping to deliver environmental improvement projects across the site.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll be a practical and motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors and engaging with the public.

You will have:

  • Experience undertaking practical grounds maintenance or similar outdoor work.

  • Experience of working safely within a team environment.

  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service.

  • Experience supporting volunteers, community groups or members of the public.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with incidents or challenging situations.

  • A full UK driving licence.

  • A willingness to undertake training and develop new skills.

  • Experience using equipment, tools and machinery relevant to parks, grounds maintenance or open space management.

  • Basic IT skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
