This is an exciting time for the Estates and Operations department, and our maintenance team is busier than ever. They play a pivotal role in ensuring our buildings and grounds remain safe, functional and welcoming for our pupils, staff and wider community. Their hard work is paying off as we see improvements across the site, major projects progressing at pace, and strong positive feedback from colleagues and visitors alike.

There is still more to be done, however. This role will play a crucial part in helping us meet our maintenance team objectives, as well as supporting the School’s wider strategic plan. Most days bring new opportunities to learn and develop hands‑on skills, along with the occasional challenge.

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in a team environment. While each member of the team has clear areas of responsibility, we are never afraid to lend a hand when others need support, with everyone collaborating to ensure the smooth running and continual improvement of our estate.

Any new member of the team can expect guidance, training and encouragement at every level as they grow into the role.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a professional setting while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification.  This is an ideal first step in a career in Maintenance, offering exposure to both school-based operations and the wider City of London Corporation.

This apprenticeship role is based at City of London Freemen’s school Ashtead Park, Surrey, KT21 1ET and will last for 18 months (including time to complete your End Point Assessment).

At Freemen’s, our mission is to Learn, Lead and Make a Difference.  We are a warm, inclusive school community that values curiosity, kindness and ambition.  You’ll be supported every step of the way by an experienced team committed to helping you grow professionally.

If you are enthusiastic and committed to achieving your Level 2 Maintenance Operative qualification and are eligible to apply, we would love to hear from you.

To qualify for this apprenticeship, you will need to be:

•             16 or over by the end of the summer holidays

•             Living in England

•             Not in full-time education at the time of applying

If you are a non-UK citizen – you need to have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship.

Selected apprenticeships require evidence of English and Maths GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent.

If we request specific qualification evidence it will be required before applications are considered, please send copies of your certificates and application reference number to CoLHR.Apprenticeships@cityoflondon.gov.uk .

If you have any questions on this, please contact CoLHR.Apprenticeships@cityoflondon.gov.uk

Selection for the apprenticeship is on the basis of suitability and commitment to the apprenticeship not qualification.
