Hybrid – you’ll be expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week or 60% of your working time in the office.

The Education Strategy Unit (ESU) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Event Coordinator & Personal Assistant to join our dynamic team. This 1-year secondment position will have two strands: planning, organising and delivering engaging education-oriented events, and team administration and diary management support for the Strategic Education and Skills Director.

Based in our small and friendly team within the Department for Community and Children’s Services, your work will support the delivery of the City Corporation’s Education Strategy 2024-29 which focuses on five key areas: Supporting Educational Excellence, Promoting Personal Development, Improving Employability, Embracing Culture Creativity & The Arts, and Reinforcing Safety, Health & Wellbeing.

You will need strong organisational and project management skills for events as the role demands an expert in all aspects of planning events, meetings, and conferences, and will include budgeting, venue & tech hire, catering management and logistics. Also essential is a thorough knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and routine administration which will help maintain the smooth running of this busy team, and provide admin support to the Strategic Education and Skills Director.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as part of the selection process the successful applicant will be required to obtain an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

If this role is advertised as a secondment, secondments are subject to the agreement of your department releasing you, therefore, you need to discuss this with your line manager prior to applying. The purpose of this will be to discuss what, if any, impact your secondment might have on the service and service delivery should your application be successful, and how this might be addressed.

Closing date: 12 noon on 1 August 2025

Because our roles are so varied, we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ policy for workplace attendance. How many days a week you’ll be required to attend your workplace will depend on the requirements of your role. It’s important that you understand the requirements before applying to ensure you are able to meet them. We are committed to considering requests to work flexibly and job share. Requests will be considered by the recruiting manager in line with our policies and business needs.

For more information on our categories for workplace attendance, please view our guide here.

We will be reviewing this policy and approach at regular intervals to ensure we’re meeting our attendance needs.
